What to Expect When You Visit
Going into a church building the first time is no different than visiting any other organization the first time. There is always the fear of the unknown. Where do I sit? What do I do? Where are the restrooms? What do I wear? Do I go to class or not? Will anyone speak to me? Will too many people speak to me?
The main fears of attending a church the first time are derived from the views of attending church that are portrayed on TV and in the movies. CHURCH JUST SEEMS LIKE A SCARY PLACE!!
Please be assured that attending the Portal Way Church of Christ will not be a scary adventure. We believe you will feel very comfortable in a short time - whether you attend Bible classes or a worship service. We are just sinners saved by God's grace through Jesus Christ, trying to live a good life in Him.
If you choose to first attend a worship service on Sunday morning, you will find that we participate in several forms of worship during the hour. You are invited to participate in any or all of them as you feel comfortable.
In addition, you may observe persons responding at the end of the lesson for baptism or for prayer.

- Singing - Our singing is a capella (without instruments). A leader will announce and lead songs of praise. We blend our voices as we praise and worship our God, knowing that our music is good to His ears.
- Praying - Several public prayers will be led during the typical service. These prayers are led by men from the congregation and are from their hearts.
- Lord's Supper (communion) - We take the unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine each Sunday as we remember the death, burial, and resurrection of our Savior.
- Giving - We happily give back from the abundance that God has given us so that His work on earth can continue through this church and through others. Our gifts support not only the local church but also mission efforts throughout the world.
- Teaching/Preaching - The lesson, which typically lasts about half of each service, reflects on the Bible (God's Word) in helping us to learn what God has said to us and how it applies in our lives. Scriptures are often read aloud during the preaching lesson.
